Welcome Ladies, to the May edition of Expat Woman Abu Dhabi.

It’s May already Ladies, where have the last 4 months gone? The temperature is starting to soar and no doubt you are all planning your summer vacations! I took mine early this year and went to the UK for a week, though I did manage to avoid Heathrow Terminal 5!

The weather back in England was true to form, wet and cold, but we did get a couple of days of sunshine, so I took advantage of that and spent some time in the countryside, getting my fix of fields and farm life.

I was also lucky enough to be invited to the Bahrain Formula One Grand Prix a few weeks back. It was a fantastic (but very loud) day and I was pleased to see that Ferrari got 1st and 2nd Place! It was only a 50 minute plane ride and would be a great place to visit if you ever have a spare few days.

Do you have a need to be Inspired? Have a listen to two very inspirational women although Dubai Based they gave great insight to the wonderful work they do for Special needs children. Theresa Gobbara founder of SNAP, an organisation set up to give special needs children and young people life enhancing experiences.  Rebecca Corley is a founder member of a support group for children and young people with downs syndrome and their parents. Both interviews very inspiring and there are practical ways you can get involved and help if you have time and or skills to share and can commit.

Last month I talked to you about sunscreen and dehydration, and in the coming months that is going to be more important than ever. As I mentioned earlier, the temperature is increasing rapidly and soon it will be too hot to venture outside between the hours of 10 and 4. With this in mind, if you are going to be in Abu Dhabi for the summer months, it might be time to start thinking about things to do with your children that don’t involve going to the beach!

Indoor activities are what you need to think about. Ski Dubai at the Emirates Mall is a fantastic opportunity for your kids to have some fun in the snow, and the prices are reasonable. The Malls in Abu Dhabi also have activity centres for younger children, which are fully supervised. Another idea play dates, at alternative parents houses, just to get the children in one air-conditioned place for some socialising!

You could always go for a coffee?? Check the dates for all of our Coffee Morning.

Don’t panic though, you have about another 3 weeks grace for organising before the really hot weather starts! So take advantage of the this month by going to the beach before it gets too hot!
